The Dell Technologies World conference brings together some of the foremost leaders in IT with sessions to help attendees achieve business objectives, regardless of skill level. Together with fellow IT leaders, the conference includes discussions on everything from product launches to future innovations. And during the event a few weeks ago, some of the Rocket Software team headed out to participate in a two-day Mainframe Summit breakout session.

While at the Mainframe Summit, we had the opportunity to hear from industry-leading Dell mainframe technologists and share some of our own mainframe expertise too. Rocket Software’s own John Crossno, Director of Product Management, Infrastructure Modernization, took the stage on day two to give a presentation on Rocket Software’s data recovery capabilities.

Let’s take a brief look at some of the key points John had to offer during the summit.

Building Business Resilience in the Mainframe

Mainframe systems play a critical role in every aspect of daily life. 92 of the top 100 banks rely on the mainframe to provide banking services to customers. As do 23 of the 25 top airlines and ten of the world’s top insurers. But no matter the industry, any amount of disruption to the mainframe can prove costly and damaging. This is a sentiment that rings particularly true in an already volatile economic landscape. With that in mind, organizations need to ensure they are building business resiliency – the ability to adapt to disruptions and keep staff, data, and company reputation safe – into their IT operations.

But building resiliency is not a straightforward task. Organizations face rapidly growing amounts of critical data—all of which have a key role to play in operations. In fact, data storage is growing by 65%, compounded annually, and worldwide data is expected to top 175 zettabytes by the year 2025. With so much data entering the mix, even a seemingly small disruption could end up losing vast amounts of data, leaving organizations behind and unable to catch up after disaster strikes.

Data Backup and Recovery

With so much at stake and the volume of enterprise data continuing to expand, any infrastructure modernization plans must include an effective data backup and recovery capability. This key challenge is something that Rocket Software brings the expertise and tools to help any business accomplish effectively. With well-established backup and recovery solutions and new, innovative capabilities for surgical recovery of data, businesses that partner with Rocket Software can identify critical application data, backing it all up to a single point in time. As the number of backups within a business’ operations grows, these data recovery tools also bring crucial visibility into the fold for IT leaders, making the recovery process easier to manage.

Oftentimes there might be a specific piece of data a business needs to go in and recover from a specific point in time. With the added visibility Rocket Software delivers and capabilities like surgical recovery, organizations can take advantage of point-in-time recovery at the dataset level.

Powering Business Resilience with Rocket Software

Data is one of the most valuable assets for organizations. The potential that exists for businesses that are able to tap into that data in meaningful ways can make the difference in maintaining a competitive edge in the market. With that in mind, it’s crucial that businesses include data backup and recovery as part of any infrastructure modernization plans. And the right partner can help ensure success along the way. Organizations that incorporate Rocket Software’s solutions have seen immediate results, eliminating as much as 40 hours of manual data cloning per quarter, scaling major increases in demand, and making data stores and processes accessible to other computing platforms in near real-time. The right tools can prove to be the difference between disaster or a minor hiccup.
